On Sunday, I did the ultimate tourist activity in Savonlinna- I rented a kayak and paddled around the town. Savonlinna is essentially built on a row of islands with bridges between them, so I was able to paddle around almost the entire town. I saw summer cottages (kesämökkiä), my friend Tarmo, and the castle, as shown below.
Tarmo is my boat-f

riend. I met him on my first day in Savonlinna, while running. Tarmo and I usually visit twice a week. If I were going to

leave Savonlinna by boat, it would have to be by Tarmo. I have never seen Tarmo moving, but it floats at least. One of my American friends in my language course identified exactly why I like Tarmo. Tarmo could Thomas the Tank Engine's lake-going counter part. I actually envisioned the Disney cartoon from the 60s with the little tug boat who eventually had to push the trash barge.
I ended my Sunday with a soccer game. I didn't know what type of team it was, and it turned out to be the 17 year old boy's traveling team. I haven't watched as soccer game since highschool, but I'm pretty sure these guys were better than any American high school soccer player I'd seen.
There's another game on Wednesday, so if it's not raining, I'll be there.
